Periapatna assembly elections held peacefully

Today’s polling at the Periyapatna Assembly constituency was completely  peaceful  and registered  a heavy turn out of   80 to 85 percent .

In the last elections held during 2008, the periyapatna recorded 82 percent of voting.

The election, which was scheduled to take place on May 5 itself along with 223 other Assembly constituencies in the State, was postponed following the death of BJP candidate Sannamogegowda.

Polling, which commenced in a doll note in the morning, picked up on brisk note through out the day with women voters outnumbered the men in the entire constituency.

In kamapalapura and ylakuppe polling centers  the voting delayed  for more then 45 minutes to begin due to fault of EVMs.  In all  205 polling centers  across the constituency which has 1,62,397 voters with 83,288 men and 79,109 women.

Despite the taluk witnessed light showers in the afternoon and people continued to cast their votes.

Congress candidate K. Venkatesh, who is seeking re-election, cast his vote at Kitturkoppalu village while JD(S) candidate K. Mahadev voted in Periyapatna town and BJP candidate R.T. Satish voted in Ravandur village. In all eight candidates in the fray. However, KJP candidate H S Basavaraju and SP candidates were retired from the contest in favour of congress.

For the Congress, which has already won 7 of the 11 Assembly seats in Mysore district, another win will make this a repetition of the 2008 election results.

The final result is likely to be declared by 11.30 am. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner C. Shikha, who is also the District Electoral Officer, has stated in  that no victory celebrations will be allowed across the taluk, following the declaration of results. A ban was imposed on taking out processions either by the candidates or party activists.
