Astronautical Society of India awards function held at Byalalu

Astronautical Society of India (ASI), a frontline  scientific professional society has instituted an annual award scheme of honouring those scientists who have contributed to the growth of astronautics the country in a significant and outstanding manner.

ASI announced the awards for the years 2010 and 2011 on January 1, 2013.Dr. Muthunayagam and Dr. V.K Saraswat were selected for the prestigious Aryabhata Awards for the years 2010 and 2011 respectively.  Along with them, a host of names from ISRO and DRDO scientific community   working in different areas of astronautics, namely, rocket and related technologies, spacecraft and related technologies,   space sciences and applications as well as space systems management were also announced for ASI and ISRO-ASI awards.

The awards function was held today at Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) situated at Byalalu, near Bangalore. Mr. V. Narayanasamy, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions was the chief guest and gave away the awards. The function was presided over by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan,   President, ASI /Chairman, ISRO.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Narayanasamy congratulated the awardees for their excellent contributions which are of invaluable importance to the country’s progress. He also appreciated the women and young scientists of the country who have done outstanding contributions to the development of astronautics. The minister complimented the efforts of ASI in promoting the excellent awards scheme which recognises the significant contributions of the scientists.
