The shiradi ghat stretch of National Highway 75 is gearing up for strengthening and concreting work, and likely to be closed  for vehicular movement from December 15.

The National Highway connecting  Mangaluru and Bengaluru via Shiradi ghat is a busy stretch with a traffic density of 25,000 Passengers per day. The public works department has estimated Rupees 155 Crores as the cost of the project and announced alternative routes for the benefit of commuters.

Light motor vehicles will take Charmudi ghat and Bisle Ghat route while heavy vehicles will commute by Madikeri -Sulya road, Agumbe ghat in shimoga district is an additional alternative route, said Nataraj, Executive Engineer of National High way, Mangaluru Division.

Reliable sources confirm all KSRTC buses, even though if it is an additional journey of 25 kms, will come to Sakleshpur Bus stand for the benefit of  public,.

Mrutyanjaya  Swamy, Chief Engineer National Highaway in a press meet at sakaleshpur today said, the  material procurement to undertake the concreting work is in process. The road will be closed after  a meeting with the Public works Minister, and  Deputy commissioners of Hassan and Dakshina Kannada districts, he added.

It is learnt, Prof Pande from IIT, Roorkee , a specialist in road construction technology is giving a helping hand  in implementing this project .
