Bangalore , February 19 :The two-day nation-wide strike from Wednesday called by 11 central trade unions is sure to throw normal life out of gears in Bangalore and other parts of Karnataka.

Buses and auto-rickshaws would be off the roads during the 48-hour shut-down. Bank staff have also joined the strike. Schools and colleges have declared holidays.

The latest addition to the strike are the Taxi operators.  The  taxi owner Srinivas from Manuvana of Vijayanagar  told  that he was asked to stop plying his taxi from 6am onwards from tomorrow.  “ I was supposed to pick up a regular customer from Koramangala to drop him to city railway station at 7.30am but due to strike I will drop him as early as 4.45am and return home within 6am to avoid any unpleasant situation” he said.

However, milk supplies and emergency medical services and hospitals have been exempted from the purview of the strike.

The 10 demands of the trade unions mainly related to checking of price rise, generation of employment, halting of disinvestment in public sector enterprises and implementation of labour laws.
