Well-known Tulu theatre personality Machendranath Pandeshwar (78) who has contributed to Kannada theatre,  passed away on March 6, 2013 at his daughter’s residence at  Yekkur.

In a career spanning several decades Machendranath authored more than 100 Tulu popular  plays some of which were staged even internationally.

Pandeshwar who began his career with Tulu play ‘Mokeda Magaleg Kuselda Kandani” has given some of the memorable plays to Tulu audience like “Mokena Jokay, “Bolpuge Bale”, “Telpera Kalpi” “Mande Arvathena Mundasu Tammalena”, “Badukonji kana” and many more.

Some of his plays like “mokeda magaleg kuselda kandani, “porthu Kanthundu’, ‘Dare Sere” etc., have been made into films.  He was a multi talented personality who also wrote lyrics to some of the popular films  and acted in films  like “pettai pili”, ‘Badkere Budle”, “Bangarda Kural” and Bhagyavanthedi.  He also wrote dialogues to some of the Tulu movies.

Some of the Kannada plays he wrote are “Yamalokadalli miss Moonlight”,  “Devdas”, “Na Sayalare”, ”mathrubhumigage madive” and “Alexander”.  Pandeswhar was awarded DK dist Kannada Rajyotsava Award, the Karnataka Nataka Academy Award and  Tulu Sahitya Academy Award for his contribution to Tulu theatre.

 

A condolence meeting will be held in honour of the departed soul on April 12, 2013 at 4 pm at Tulu Sahithya Academy office.
