Wrestling competition for women

To mark the platinum anniversary of Sri Veera Maruthia Vyayama Shale in association with Dakshina Kannada District  Amateur Wrestling Federation, Mangalore, a wrestling competition was organized at Yemmekere Maidan in Bolar for two days starting from 11th May, 2013.  About 250 wrestlers including 30 female wrestlers participated in the event and it was for a first time a wrestling event was organized for women in seven categories.   Competitions were held in ten categories for men and seven categories for women.

Tharanath Shetty Bolar, Vice President of Veera Maruthi Vyayama Shale stated that he was happy with the overwhelming response he received from the participants.  “For the first time we held wrestling competition for women and it was such a huge success”,    said a beaming Shetty.

Mangalore south police station Inspector C N Diwaker inaugurated the competition. Businessman A Sadananda Shetty had presided over the valedictory programme. Abdul Waheed, Purushothama Rai, Diwakar and Kavitha were the guests of honour of the valedictory function.  Manohar, Bureau Chief of Udayavani distributed prizes to the winners.

Newly elected MLA from Mangalore South constituency J R Lobo visited the venue.  He wished the participants well and witnessed a few competitions.
