City crime branch police officials took part in the workshop on ‘child Rights and Juvenile Justice Rules “to sensitize the police force in dealing with juvenile offices.
The workshop was organized jointly by the people’s legal forum (PLF) and the Mysore city police.
Addressing the police officials PP Baburaj, director of forum and a member of juvenile justice forum, Mysore, underlined the importance of treating juvenile offenders in a soft manner as per the act.
According to survey conducted in Bangalore he pointed out that about 98 percent of juvenile offenders were subjected to third degree treatments at the hands of the police. It was necessary to treat them in proper way to ensure that they correct themselves and become good human beings, he added.
Speaking on the occasion District child protection officer R Somalatha urged the police personnel to have a good knowledge about the act and other laws pertaining to young offenders.
City police commissioner DR M A Saleem , DCP (Law & Order) A.N. Rajanna, DCP (Crime & Traffic) M.M. Mahadevaiah and other senior police officials participated in the workshop .
