Awards for progressive tobacco farmers

ENARADA, Mysore, August 18, 2013:

The Andhra Pradesh farmers dominated claiming nine awards out of 15 presented by the Tobacco institute of India (TII) with the objective of encouraging tobacco farmers.

R V Vishwanath from Kamplapura, Periyapatna taluk in Mysore District was presented Lifetime Achievement Award for growing a record 1,994 kgs of tobacco per hectare.

Mr Vluva Khagavali, Gogineni Subramanian, Allabalur swamy choudry. Rao. V  Narayan (All from Andhra Pradesh), and Vital rao suryavamshi from Hunsur were received the best farmer awards on the occasion. While nine others five from Andhra Pradesh, three from Mysore district and one from Hassan district were received the recognition awards on the   occasion.

Presenting the awards Co-operation Minister H.S. Mahadeva Prasad appealed to the Tobacco Board and Tobacco companies to encourage the farmers by way of providing better rates for their crops.

He said that he had discussed with the Union Commerce Minister Kamalnath to encourage the tobacco growers in the country.

Speaking on the occasion MP, A H Viswanath urged Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh governments to solve the   problems of the tobacco farmers in their respective states.

Mysore district in charge minister V. Srinivasa Prasad, Mlas H P Manjunath K. Venkatesh were present on the occasion.
