Over fifty thousand devotees visited Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills to offer special prayers today, the first Friday of Ashadha season.

Devotees from different parts of the state started thronging the hill shrine before the day-break on Friday and waited in serpentine queue to enter into temple.

The special pujas including Rudrabhisheka, Panchamrita Abhisheka and Sahasranama conducted by chief priest Shashishekar Dikshit and his colleagues, began as early as 3.30 am.

Darshan for public started from 5.30 am onwards, followed by Mahamangalarati. The Mahamangalarati was performed again at 8.30 pm, before closing the temple for the day.

To restrict vehicular movement near temple premises, the district administration had made elaborate parking arrangement near Lalit Mahal Hotel.

KSRTC arranged free shuttle service from parking area to temple. An ambulance and fire tender were also kept in readiness at the Lalitha Mahal Helipad.

A large number  newly-wed couples were seen climbing the 1008 steps leading to the hill shrine to fulfil their vow.

The clay models of Lord Eshwara ploughing the land with a pair of bullocks, assisted by Goddess Parvathi, their sons Lord Ganesha and Lord Subrahmanya was the main attraction. There were also models of Mahishasura and Goddess Chamundeshwari on display near the temple.
