ENARADA, Mangalore, August 14, 2013

Just a day prior to Independence Day, tension prevailed in communally sensitive Ullal, which witnessed clashes between two groups resulting in injury to four youth.

It is said that a group of eight youth had attacked two youth Nasir of Kotepura (25) and Ashfaq (22) over a minor issue at Mogaveera beach in Ullal, which comes under the constituency of Health Minister UT Khader.

Sources say that a group of eight youth who were playing on the beach approached Nasir and Ahfaq when they were sitting on the beach. The group attacked the duo with wooden sticks over a petty issue on August on August 13, 2013. However, the assailants fled from the scene when the police arrived at the spot. The injured were admitted to a hospital in Thokkottu.

That was not the end of the matter. In what is believed to be a retaliatory attack, two youth – Lathesh (25) and Shahan (25) were attacked by a group with bottles when the youth were returning home at night. Both the youngsters were injured in the incident. The fight further aggravated and continued in the corridors of the hospital as both the groups were admitted in the same hospital. Police had to resort to lathi charge to quell the quarrelling groups.

Considering that the fight has erupted a day prior to Independence day, the authorities have stepped up security and KSRP personnel have been deployed to prevent any problematic incidents. This is all the more necessary because Ullal is communally sensitive and the police do not want to take any chances.
