After banning TV crew and photo Journalists in the Assembly hall a few months ago, the Karnataka government has now barred the entry of media to  Legislator’s home (LH) near Vidhana Soudha citing ‘invasion of privacy’.

Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in Karnataka Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri bans the entry of media to LH.

The notice issued from the office of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Secretariat dated February 18, 2020, gives clear instruction to police not to allow journalists from Print and electronic media to LH. The reason mentioned in the notice is Legislators take rest in LH after finishing hectic work and they feel uncomfortable with the presence of journalists.

According to notice, if any legislators want to give byte to media, the arrangements should be made outside the LH gates.

The issue of imposing curbs on media is nothing new in Karnataka. The then chief minister HD Kumaraswamy banned the entry of journalists to Vidhana Soudha in July 2018 during the Congress and JD(S) coalition Government.  However, he lifted the ban immediately after severe criticism.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly speaker banned Cameras inside the Assembly hall in October 2019.

Notice banning media.
