Policeman on duty died in a hit-and-run case

Mangalore, April 5, 2013:

Mangalore which has been witnessing a series of accidents in the last two days added one more to the list of bizarre accidents when policeman on patrol at Bappanadu check post near Mulki was killed in a hit and run case on the wee hours of today, April 5, 2013.

The deceased Rajappa (29) of coastal security police was on shift duty along with two other policemen checking vehicles passing through Bappanadu check post. It is said that at around 3 am a speeding lorry rammed into him and sped away killing him on the spot.  By the time two other policemen could note down the number the lorry had sped from the spot and Rajappa was found dead.

Rajappa, who is from Honnali in Davanagere, belonged to 2008 batch and was first posted in Sullia.  He was posted at Mulki just a year ago.  He was married ten months ago and his wife is said to be pregnant.

Just yesterday there were three gruesome accidents where five people were dead on Kasaragod-Mangalore road on NH 66.  Two youngsters (brothers) died on the spot when a service bus plying from Thokkottu towards Mangalore hit their bike from behind   near Ekkuru, killing them on the spot.  In another incident near Ullal bridge hardly a few kms away from Ekkuru a scooter rider died when a tanker hit his scooter.

In another tragic incident a pregnant woman and her husband was killed seriously injuring her mother-in-law and the auto driver in Kumble near Kasargod.  Babitha who was pregnant had developed labour pains and was on the way to the hospital when a KSRTC bus coming towards Mangalore hit the auto killing the husband and wife on the spot./ENN
