ENARADA, Mysore, September 10, 2013:

To ensure children of Mahouts and Kavadis tending to Dasara elephants does not miss formal education, Government is making necessary arrangements to educate them.

Two teachers are enthusiastically carrying out the task of providing education to children who have come to the city from forest along with their parents and elephants. Mysore district administration is providing books and clothing.

The temporary school established under ‘Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan’ (Education for all) is located in the Mysore palace courtyard.

Classes commence around 9.30 a.m. and continue till 1 p.m., after which the children are free to play with the friends they know best — the Dasara elephants!

Children belonging to different classes from class 1 to 7, will rejoin their native schools in Veeranahosahalli and Nagarahole forests after the Dasara festivals ends on October 14.
