The man-eater tiger was trapped finally, villagers wants to kill the animal in front of them

ENARADA, Mysore, December  5, 2013:

The man- eater tiger, which consumed four persons in a span of last one week was finally trapped with tranquilizers at chikkabaragi forests of bandipur tiger reserve today.

It was a big relief for the villagers on this region after the big cat was trapped.

Forest officials camping at the spot said that the combing operation to trap the big cat which killed four persons in bandipur and nagarahole national parks   was intensified after the killing of 70 year old Basappa two days ago near chikkabargi village.

The state government gave the shooting order to kill the animal yesterday and even the forest officials opened the fire few rounds. However, the tiger was not sighted.

The operation team successfully identified the tiger’s pug marks which was found near the body of Basappa . Three teams were formed today for the operation along with veterinarians this morning.

The expert veterinarians followed the tiger track after being sighted in a bush, three rounds of tranquilized were fired on the tiger, one of them was sticked on the body. Later the animal was completely muffed.

Officials said that the tiger was well built and aged.

The man-eater has accounted for three deaths in villages near Bandipur National Park in the last few days. In addition, a forest watcher is suspected to have been killed by a different tiger in the Nagarahole National Park area on the Kodagu region of the Nagarahole National Park.

All the three deaths are attributed to one tiger as the attacks took place in a radius of 6 to 10 km.

According to forest officials this is one of the rarest cases of attacks on humans and could not hunt the other animals due to his old age.

Meanwhile large number of people from various villagers in and around has rushed to spot to see the man eater. In the meantime the    villagers who came to see the animal wanted to kill in front of them and even staged the protest, however, the forest officials and police officials pacified them and assured them that  big cat will not be released in the vicinity .

Initially it was deiced to shift the tiger to banereghatta park near  Bangalore , later it was decided to shift the animal to Mysore zoo for treatments for his injuries . it was suspected that tiger‘s mouth was badly injured and unable to eat and some of the teeth were also broken.

It may be recalled that the enraged villagers  ransacked the bandipur  project tiger office  besides  setting  on fire the office,  a van , a lorry and three two wheelers which were parked behind the office.
