Two arrested in Jain Basadi theft brought to city, sent to judicial custody

Two Arrested - ENARADA

ENARADA, Mangalore, July 17, 2013:

The police today brought the two accused from Bhubaneshwar to the city arrested in connection with the Moodibidri Jain temple theft case of July 6, 2013.

The two accused are identified as Diptimayee Mohanty, wife of Santhosh Das, the prime accused and his father-in-law Digambar Mohanty.  However, the main accused Santhosh is still at large.

They were produced to the court which remanded them to judicial custody till July 30.  The father-daughter duo was arrested on charges of abetment in the theft case because they refused to divulge any information on Santhosh, the main accused in the case.

Digamber, a class IV employee of Odisha state, was attached to the urban development department of the state government.

The Mangalore police in tandem with the Bhubaneshwar police had succeeded in tracing the stolen idols in Bhubaneshwar.  During the police raid they also recovered 1 kg gold from the bank locker of Santhosh, the main accused.

It may be recalled that at least 15 ancient idols worth crores were stolen from the Jain Basadi in Moodbidri on July 6, 2013.
