ENARADA, Bengaluru, November 21, 2015

The city is all set to host the Bangalore Harmonica and Reed Instrument Festival on November 22, 2015. The objective of the fest is to promote and spread the awareness of Harmonica to more and more people through exchange of instrumental music lessons, playing techniques and by organizing events/festivals to ensure necessary impetus and publicity to this wonderful yet dying art of harmonica playing in our country. Harmonica had always been considered a men’s pocket instrument and women playing Harmonica is a rarity. But, this festival will showcase exquisite performances by women of all ages.

The 2014 festival was a big success in spreading the message to music lovers of Bengaluru, and the country at large, on the richness of harmonica and reed instruments. The festival ensured renewed interest in traditional musical instruments which exploit the inner core of human talent and creativity as opposed to modern digital instruments. Membership of the harmonica club saw a spurt in number of enthusiasts joining the club to nurture their harmonica talent.

This year’s festival therefore in addition to all the ingredients of the 2014 festival, will also include new talents and novel compositions and themes portrayed through harmonica, melodica, accordion, saxophone and other reed instruments. The 2015 festival will also showcase creative compositions by the “Hamsanada” childrens’ choir which now has grown not only in numbers but also in richness and variety of music through harmonica.

“Kannada Namana” will be the theme that will be presented by the “Hamsanada” and this presentation is sure to enthuse the youth and the future generation to take to the harmonica instead of digital /electronic music. The 2015 festival will be organized on a bigger scale and is expected to draw a larger audience compared to last year mainly due to the stupendous success of the last year’s festival and huge appreciation it had received in the print and broadcast media and even on social networking sites. Several professional players, from Carnatic classical genre represented by Shri Saitejas Chandrasekhar, Western Blues harmonica player Vasudev Prabhu, the versatile SJ Prasanna, the famous accordion player Mr M.B. Prakash, Maria Ralph the melodica player etc., will be the participants and also will be star attractions in the festival.

This year’s festival will be conducted in the prestigious Ravindra Kalakshetra on 22nd November 2015 from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. The audience and participants in this festival are expected to be music lovers from all spectrum of the society in Bangalore. Like last year Mr. Kaushik Mukherjee, the Chief Secretary of Karnataka, who is himself an avid harmonica player, will grace the occasion as a guest of honour. He will also perform at the festival as a harmonica artist. Smt M.D. Pallavi, the noted Kannada playback singer will be the chief guest.
