By Jnanapitha award winner Dr.Chandrasekhar kambara offering pooja to principal deity of the city godess Chamundeshwari, atop of chamundi hills here, the world famous Dasara festivities began on a traditional note today.

The state festival, nada habba- began with day celebrations by lighting a traditional lamp.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah and other ministers also offered pooja on the occasion. For Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, this is the first Dasara Celebrations after he  has occupied the top post. Interestingly Mysore is his home town too. So naturally this year’s Dasara would be more glittering than before.

Speaking on the occasion, beaming CM said “during the last two years due to drought situation in the state Dasara festivities  has been celebrating in a  low key affair , however, the festivities would be conducted this year without compromising on traditional and cultural extravaganza”.

He said that the government has been preparing the action plan for the tourism circuits in order to boost tourism   sector in the Mysore region comprising of Kodagu, Mandya, Hassan, chamarajangara and Mysore districts, each one of having great potential in tourism.

The Chief Minister said “nada habba (state festival) which has declared by the state government since  from 1973  continued  in a traditional and cultural manner for  wellbeing of the state and  this festivities celebrating  not only in the city but also across the state and it has become people’s  festival.”

The government has taken all steps to involve people in the festivities to counter against complaint of festivities turning out be officer’s festivities, he added.   The dasara festivities have been conducting with royal tradition and rich cultural programmes during the next nine days in the city.

He also said that the good rains in the state this year which would ease up some tensions between the state government and Tamilandu over the Cauvery water issue, the rains which brought lot of cheers among the farmers. The farmers are also expecting a good crop this year since all the reservoirs in the state   has filled up very early, he added

He also announced improving the infrastructure at chamundi hills on the lines of the Thirumala-Thirupathi temples by providing all facilities including drinking water facilities.

Inaugural message
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Chandra Shekhara kamagbara said   the festivities celebrating the triumph of good over evil, this dasara festival not limited to the Mysore city which evokes different images across the country on the state which has rich culture besides its great hospitality.

He complimented the state government for dasara celebrations which would symbolize the unity and diversity of the state as well as the country.

He said the famous dasara festivities which have long history of four centuries and tradition has continued by the governments. The festivities have its own social value which unit people of the world during the ten days. The festivities have its own culture and tradition right from the vijyanagara empires later continued by the Mysore Royal families.

He said due to unstable government during the last few years  resulting  the  people of the state  has suffered lot and now under the leadership of  chief minister Siddaramiah with majority  would  be able deliver good works, he added.

Stating that with the globalization of markets which has been affecting the rural and tribal people’s united life. Even though the information technology has moving towards giant strides in the country, environmental   hazards and other challenges posing a threat to existence  , he regretted.

He also recalled the history of the vijyanagara rulers and Mysore royal family who have protected the   Karnataka’s culture and same has been continued by the state governments now.

Ministers Srinivasa Prasad, H C Mahadevappa, H S Mahadeva Prasad, smt Umashri, MP’s, MLA’s and officials participated in the function.

Ascending Golden Throne
Meanwhile continuing the tradition ritual, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja wodyear, scion of the Mysore royal family, began the festivities by performing a puja inside the palace premises in a traditional manner.

He ascended the priceless Golden throne on the occasion which was witnessed by royal family members and special invitees. This process would continue until the last day of the dasara festivities.

There was royal procession inside the palace besides Smt Promodadvi Wadiyar also took part in the puja rituals .

Festive look at Chamundi Hills
The chamundi hills wore a festive look. The authorities have made special lighting arrangements. The path leading to the temple has also been lit up for the benefit of pilgrims who are expected to converge in large numbers on all these days.

The entire city had been spruced up for the grand ten day celebrations with a number of main thoroughfares, heritage buildings and government offices illuminated.

Cultural program
Cultural programmes with hundreds of artist’s besides 300 cultural tropes were the part of the nine day events.  The authorities has organized to mark the occasion  and every section of the society  could include in the event, besides, sports  meets like wrestling, yuva   dasara  for  youths, poets  conference , film festival , food mela etc.

The festivity committee also formed the ritha dasara  for farmers with various   programmes  including traditional games for their family members also.

The other events like rural dasara, women and children dasara and yoga dasara also as part of this years events.

This festivity has undergone a transformation in recent years and it has a blend of religious elements with socio cultural components, corporate sponsorships of events, a concept that was considered encouragements and participation by others.

Tourism, Exhibition, Film Festival, flower show
In order to give boost tourism in the state dasara tourism celebrations were inaugurated by the tourism minister R V Deshpand y in the palace premises.

The kSRTC and tourism department has taken up various package tours for the tourists during these days to visit to the various places in and around the city besides the authorities made special package for rural mass to visit to the city and witnessed the various events from Mysore, Kodagu, Chamarajanagara, Mandya and Hassan districts.

The mega event of music festival in front of the illuminated Mysore palace in the evening which was also inaugurated by the chief minister.

The 90 day Mysore dasara exhibition was also inaugurated today. However many stalls in the exhibition yet to come up. The other attractions of the dasara events are Film festival and Flower shows which was also began today.

The nine day mega celebrations would be culminated on October14 with famous disarray procession (jambosavari – four km procession from the palace premises). This programme followed by the grand torch light parade at Bannimantapa grounds.

The police authority has already made elaborate security measures all these days with deploying more than 6000 police personnel.  Nearly 200 special cameras have been installed at vintage points to check the people movement besides traffic control in and around the city during the festivities.

SPORTS MEET
Around 3000 Sports persons from across the state are participating in the three day dasara sprots events which was inaugurated by CM today at Chamundi Vihar Stadium .

The chief minister also declared open the newly constructed international standard Astroturf hockey ground and indoor volleyball on the occasion.

The sports torch would be brought from atop the Chamundi Hill to Spots stadium by Navanietha p u , Muthamma and P J Nalini , international  athletes.

Chess player M S Tejkumar, Mahamamad Arashad ,intenratioanl athlete , M S Ponnamma,international hockey player  and kumara prema ramesh huchannnavar , wrestling expert were honored on the occasion with cash prize of Rs 25,000 by the sports minister Abaya Chandra jain.

The event features athletics, basketball, badminton, handball, hockey, gymnastics, table tennis, volleyball, kho-kho, kabaddi, throwball, body-building, weightlifting, football, lawn tennis and swimming.

As many as more than 2000 sports person are expected to take part in the adventure sports which will be held on the back waters of Krishnarajasagar reservoir.

Earlier Chief Minister Siddaramiah along with the Housing minister Ambaresh  inaugurated the  state level wrestling competitions at Devaraj urs wrestling stadium here. More than 700 wrestlers from across the state including women are also taking part in wrestling competitions.

State sangeeth Vidwan Award
The Sangeeth Vidwan state award, a prestigious award given in recognition of exemplary contributions in the field of music, was presented to renowned musicologist DR V S Sampathkumaracharya ,native of chamarajanagara district , at a glittering function in front of the illuminated Mysore Palace here today.

Chief Minister Siddaramiah presented the award to the octogenarian musician in the presence of several dignitaries including Minister for Kannada and Culture Smt Umashri, Minister in-charge of Mysore district V. Srinivasa Prasad.

Speaking on the occasion, Siddaramiah hailed the contributions of 89-year-old Dr Sampathkuamracharya to the field of music. “It is a matter of pride to present the award him whose contribution is immense,” he said.

Speaking after receiving the award, Dr Sampathkumaracharya thanked the government for the award and said the State’s culture is vibrant and rich.

Earlier chief Minister Siddaramiah also took part in the film festival, flower show inauguration functions

The main cultural event of the festivities music programme was inaugurated by octogenarian  theatre artist Dr.Yenagi Balappa.
