ENARADA,Mysore, October 7, 2013:

As part of on going Dasara celebrations , various events are simultaneously being held at different venues. Details are as follows;

Yuva Dasara
Yuva Dasara, introduced specifically for the youth, appears to have further enlivened the Naada Habba celebrations.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the event today. The event started at the Maharaja’s College grounds with a concert by Shaan.

The list of popular artistes who are going to perform at the Yuva Dasara includes noted singers Sunidhi Chauhan (Oct.8), Vijay Prakash (Oct.9), Sukhwinder Singh(Oct.10), Mikha Singh (Oct.11).

Indian Idol junior Anjana Padmanabhan is also slated to perform on October 12. Organisers provided an opportunity to young artists  who participated in the ‘yuva sambrahma’ which was held weeks before.

Heritage walk
Hundreds of students and others took part in the Heritage Walk, organized by the Dept. of Archeology, Museums and Heritage as part of Dasara festivities here today.

The walk was inaugurated by Kannada and culture minister Smt. Umashri and she also walked up to the K R circle with the participants.

Heritage walk passed through Clock Tower in front of Town Hall one of the heritage structure, Chamarjendra Circle, K.R.Circle, Dufferin Clock Tower, Devaraja Market, K.R. Hospital, and Ayurveda Hospital to culminate again at town hall.

In all more than 200 heritage structures in the city, however, only few structures could be used for the heritage walk.

The heritage walk will conducted for three days from today showing the different parts of the city to the participants.

The youth have a major role to play in preventing disfiguring of the historical monuments and heritage buildings. Encroachment on natural heritage sties should be preserved, this message was given to participating students on the occasion.

Interestingly, a group of inspired foreigners also joined the walk at several places much to the delight of the participants.

DR Betasur mutt, Commissioner, Dept. of Archeology and Museums while speaking to journalists said that the Heritage Walk should not be limited only during Dasara but should be conducted every day which will help in attracting tourists throughout the year. City Mayor Smt Rajeshari , MLA  Vasu  and others took part in the heritage walk.

Chitra Santhe
The  cultural capital of the state Mysore city yesterday witnessed a huge  response  to the Chitra Santhe, an art market held  here as part of the ongoing  dasara festivities.

Nearly 6,000 paintings by over 200 artists from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and other States were on sale at the fair.  A wide variety of works ranging from wood and metal art to paintings on nature, landscapes, lord Krishna and his pranks attracted art lovers. Connoisseurs and general public made a beeline to purchase the works.

The santhe was inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minster Siddaramiah, who has been in the lime light in the dasara festivities. Chief Minister appreciated the works by the artists.

On display were different styles ranging from Mysore traditional painting, mud works as well as sculptures. The artworks were priced in the range of Rs.100 to Rs.3 lakh.

Makkala Dasara
It’s fun time for children as Makkala Dasara (children’s Dasara), an opportunity for children to showcase their talent, got off to a grand start in the city yesterday.

Children who won at the taluk-level competitions conducted before the festivities will take part in the competitions in Makkala Dasara at Jagan Mohan Palace auditorium.

Karnataka secondary and higher education Minister Kimanne rathanakar inaugurated in the presence of hundreds of schoolchildren,

Earlier Chief Minister  Siddramiah visited the venue and released the balloons on the occasion.  Variety of programmes including fancy dress competition and exhibition showcasing talents of children were  organised as part of the “Makkala Dasara”.

Half Marathon 

More than 500 sports persons took part in the  Dasara Half Marathon,  part of the Dasara sports events was flagged off by MLA M.K. Somashekar at the Jayamarthanda Gate of Mysore Palace , yesterday.

The Dasara Half Marathon for men (21.1 km) was won by Santosh Kumar, Western Railways, Mumbai, with a timing of 01:07:08s while local girl Thippavva Sannaki of South Western Railways, Mysore, won the race for women (21.1 km) with a timing of 01:21:00s in the races

the Railwayman from Mumbai, Santosh Kumar,  took the right from the  start with  second placed B.C. Tilak of ADA, Jhodpur and a native of Madikeri at bay for most of the time, but the latter came back strongly to come a close second with a timing of 01:07:09s. Ajay Kumar of Bangalore took third place with a timing of 01:08:70s.

Santosh won a cash prize of Rs.40, 000 while the second and third place winners secured Rs. 35,000 and Rs.30,000 respectively.

The fourth to seventh place finishers will get cash prizes of Rs.25,000, 20,000, 15, 000, 10,000 respectively while the eighth to the tenth place winners will get Rs.5000 each (both in the men’s and women’s section).

In the women’s section, Thippavva Sannakki  from the city , well known long distance runner  win in style and bag a cash prize of Rs.40,000. Shabeena of Shimoga secured the second place with a timing of 01:31:35s and she was followed by K.M. Archana of Alva’s, Moodabidri who finished with a timing of 01:37:29s. There were only five runners who finished in the women’s section.

In the College Boys 12km race, B.S. Krishnappa of Dharwas won the title with a timing of 42m:07:00s and secured a cashprize of Rs.5,000. S.K. Mahantesh of Belgaum took second place with a timing of 42m:52:00s, while Lingaraj of Dharwad secured third place.

Sharaddha Rani S. Desai of DYES, Mysore, won 6 km race with a timing of 25m:37:48s. M. Manjula of T.N. Pura finished second (25:47:50s), while B.K. Supritha of Alva’s, Moodabidri secured third (27:07.49s).

P.P. Prakash of Alva’s Moodabidri won High School Boys (6km) race (23m:57:00s). Nandakumar of Mysore finished second (24m:21:00s) and H.S. Basavaraj of Alvas, Moodabidri took third (25m:37:00s).
